Around 120 theaters are connected to the Lower Saxony Amateur Theater Association. With 3,000 volunteers in the theater sector, the association reaches more than 220,000 spectators annually. It includes the theater forms of children and youth groups, multi-generation theater, Low German theaters, senior theater , improvisational theater , musicals and puppet shows . In 2016, the Lower Saxony Amateur Theater Association coined the new form of theater, KurzStück. Amateur theater meetings take place regularly, such as the KurzStückFestival Kurz & Knackig, the Charly ImproTheater Cup, senior theater meetings, youth theater camps, Theatertage Baltrum and regional theater days. An advanced training program is intended to help improve theater work and get to know new forms of theater.

Other services provided by the association include advice on artistic and organizational issues, representing the interests of the theaters at the state level vis-à-vis politics and society, insurance coverage through the Association of German Amateur Theaters and discounts e.g. B. at GEMA.
