The Ameraucana is an American breed of chicken. It was bred in the USA in the 1970s and is descended from Araucana chickens from Chile . It was bred to preserve the Blue Egg gene but eliminate the deadly alleles of the parent breed . There are both standard sizes and bantam versions .
