American Alliance of Museums

The American Alliance of Museums ( AAM, until 2012 American Association of Museums ) is a US non-profit organization founded in 1906 . The Arlington , Virginia- based organization represents 35,000 museum members . In 2012 over 3,000 museums of all disciplines as well as zoos and aquariums and 300 companies were organized in the American Association of Museums .

As part of the reorganization of the association, which was initiated in 2009, a new accreditation system for museums was created in 2012, which is based on compliance with certain quality standards. In 2017, 1,075 of approximately 33,000 US museums were AAM accredited.
