American Association of Physical Anthropologists

The American Association of Physical Anthropologists ( AAPA ; German American Society of Physical Anthropologists ) is a scientific society of anthropologists in McLean, Virginia who focus on biological aspects of anthropology. It was founded in 1930 by 83 founding members and in 2015 had over 1700 members.

The association publishes the American Journal of Physical Anthropology , which has been published since 1918. The editor was the curator at the National Museum of Natural History Aleš Hrdlička († 1942), who co-founded the AAPA. Today it is a monthly magazine published by John Wiley & Sons . She sees her focus in scientific publications. Peter Ellison has been the editor since 2013 . On the other hand, the Yearbook of Physical Anthropology , which is also published by the AAPA, serves primarily to review and analyze internal processes .
