The American Football League of China ( AFLC ) is an American football league founded in 2013 in the People's Republic of China .

history

The American Football League of China was founded in 2013 by two former college football players. The league started with eight teams, four in the north and four in the south, divided into two divisions. The winners of the divisions competed against each other in the championship game at the end of the season. It was agreed that a maximum of five foreigners per team would be on the field at the same time. The Chongqing Dockers became the first champions .

In 2014 the number of teams rose to twelve, which is why the teams were divided into three divisions of four teams each: North, East and South. The championship was won by the Shanghai Nighthawks .

In 2015, the number of participants was reduced by the departure of several teams that founded the competitive league China Bowl Alliance . With ten teams now, the league introduced a new play-off system. All teams took part, with the first six automatically qualifying for the quarter-finals, while the last four play an additional round for the remaining two places. The winners were the Shanghai Warriors , who defeated the Shanghai Nighthawks with 37:30 in the final.

In 2016, 14 teams competed in the league. Due to the growth, the league was again divided into three divisions: East (three play-off places), West (two play-off places) and South (three play-off places). The champions were the Shanghai Titans after a 28: 6 victory over the Nighthawks.

In 2017, after five new teams joined and the Dockers left, a fourth division, AFLC North, was introduced.
