Claverton Manor was originally built around 1580 and was set in an ornately landscaped garden near a church. From this original building, which was demolished in 1820, the terraces with some walls and gate posts have been preserved. In the same place, John Vivian had a Bath stone estate built according to the plans of Sir Jeffry Wyatvilles . The building has been a Grade I listed building since February 1, 1956 .

garden

The garden, originally in the 19th century style, was redesigned in the American style after the American Museum in Britain bought the property in 1961. Right next to the house is a collection of medicinal and culinary herbs from the colonial era. There is a population of North American trees. At the foot of the terrace walls is a mixed border designed by the American garden architect Lanning. A copy of George Washington's garden on Mount Vernon was also made.
