American Society for Engineering Education

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), headquartered in Washington, DC , was founded in 1893 and is one of the oldest organizations involved in education in the engineering disciplines. It is the counterpart to the European Society for Engineering Education (SEFI) founded in 1973 . The International Society for Engineering Education (IGIP) operates internationally .

ASEE's primary mission is to develop, modernize, and improve engineering education in the United States. This task is becoming more and more important, because in the USA (as in Europe) the number of beginners among engineering students is far below the expected demand for the next few years and decades. The ASEE organizes annual symposia ("ASEE Annual Conference") with large international participation, as well as seminars and workshops on key topics, which take place rotating at different locations in the USA. She is the editor of various journals, including the award-winning PRISM Magazine, which deals with all socially relevant aspects relating to the engineering profession, the Journal of Engineering Education (more science-oriented), the journal "Advances in Engineering Education" (more practice-oriented) and various international magazines.
