American Thoracic Society

The American Thoracic Society , based in New York City, is an internationally oriented medical society with more than 15,000 members worldwide, making it one of the largest of its kind. She sees her objective in promoting scientific knowledge in the areas of pulmonology , intensive care and sleep medicine .

The company, founded in 1905, is the publisher of three medical specialist publications:

  • of the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine
  • of the American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology
  • the Proceedings of the American Thoracic Society

In addition, it holds a major international congress every year, the last from 17. – 22. May 2012 in Philadelphia . Publications and expert guidelines on various medical problems are available on the Internet. The current president of the society is Patricia W. Finn.
