Helmet with a hood.

American calottes or helmets are american calottes that were first exhibited in 1973 in the USA. The American name of this breed of pigeons goes back to the German word " helmet " for the headgear that covers the skullcap .

Helmets embody the original flight type of the calottes and are also used for high flight. They are not as slim as Dutch calottes and slightly larger than the German helmet pigeons . Their beak is of medium length , the head can be feathered smoothly or provided with a shell .
