Amiuk

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Amiuk was an Armenian province and fortress in the Kingdom of Vaspurakan . The historian Thomas Artsruni or his anonymous sequel characterizes the fortress as impregnable, close to heaven and therefore causing neck pain. After the fall of Van 1054, Amiuk and Akhtamar were the last refuge for the Armenian Christians, according to Thomas Artsruni. The commander of the fortress was Abdul Mseh (Abdlmseh), son of Theodorus (Tʿornik) from the Amiuk province and of the Artsruni family . According to Thomas Artsruni, he carried the Byzantine title of Proto-Kuropalate .
