Coburg rampage

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The media described the suicide of a 16-year-old student at a secondary school in Coburg, Bavaria, on July 2, 2003, who had previously shot a 52-year-old teacher and school psychologist, as a rampage in Coburg .

Course of events

Shortly before nine o'clock, 16-year-old Florian K. in class 8a of Coburg Secondary School 2 pulled out a gun without warning and shot next to his teacher standing at the blackboard. The projectiles hit the board just past the teacher, whereupon the students fled from the room and K. took a 15-year-old classmate hostage. A teacher from the next room was startled by the gunshot and went into the classroom to stop him from being shot again. After a verbal argument, the student shot her in the thigh, injuring her slightly. After the teacher fled the room, Florian K. took another weapon out of his backpack and shot himself with it.

Possible background

A police spokesman said after the fact that the student did not appear to want to kill anyone. The student, who was considered inconspicuous, probably wanted to impress his classmates and the situation slipped away from him. Schmitt said literally that it was "definitely not a rampage ".

With reference to his girlfriend, there were isolated reports after the fact that the shooter was interested in the satanist scene, which the police did not comment on.
