An Ending in Fire is the band's third studio album, Order from Chaos .

Emergence

An Ending in Fire contains several songs from the band's discography in re-recorded versions: Nucleosynthesis originally appeared on the EP Will to Power in 1989 , Plateau of Invincibility in 1994 on the Live EP Live into Distant Fears and the EP Plateau of Invincibility , Tenebrae and The Sign Draconis 1995 as Tenebrae / The Sign Draconis on Dawn Bringer and De Stella Nova 1996 on the EP And I Saw Eternity . Chuck Keller replied in the affirmative when asked if this was to record the story of Order from Chaos in a grand finale and show its growth over the years. According to Keller, the band wanted to record what they saw as the culmination of their progress. However, more than half of the album consists of new material. It took Chuck Keller two years to work on her final song, There Lies Your Lord, Father of Victories . He discarded passages that sounded like the band's existing material. The album was recorded in April and May 1995. Compared to the Voices from the Darkside , he stated that An Ending in Fire will contain three titles, which in turn should be divided into individual pieces.

While working on the album, the band was nearing its end. According to Keller, Pete Helmkamp changed the cover without Keller and Mike Miller's approval, and also changed the order of the track list without consulting them. He later tried to explain this by stating that they were no longer in a band together and that he therefore did not think that he should have consulted them. With the album also ended Order from Chaos. The band had decided from the start not to record more than three albums. On April 22, 1995, the band played one last time in front of friends in Kansas City. The album was ultimately released in 1998.

Music style and lyrics

Mors Dalos Ra by Necros Christos describes the music as "[k] osmic blackness paired with insane riffing ".

layout

The cover shows a capricorn. Keller did not confirm that it looked as if it had been cut out of a photograph of the lunar surface and that the background was reminiscent of the painting Triumph of Death in the Galleria Regionale della Sicilia in the Palazzo Abatellis in Palermo . Helmkamp added the Capricorn when Keller and Miller left the band and without consulting them. According to the former, Keller and Miller would certainly not have allowed it.

reception

Mors Dalos Ra lists An Ending in Fire as a classic of Black Metal . Order from Chaos is “one of the most underrated bands of all time - it doesn't give a shit whether it's Black Metal or not”. He described the album as an "absolute masterpiece". The Rock Hard put the release in the list of "250 Black Metal Albums That You Should Know".
