Anabol (from the Greek αναβολή [ anabolé ] = adjournment, postponement ) is an adjective that describes body-building processes. It is used in connection with

  • Anabolic steroids , substances that promote the build-up of the body's own tissue
  • Anabolism , the build-up of the body's own components
  • Anabolic steroids , synthetic derivatives of the male sex hormone testosterone.
  • Anabolic diet , a diet for athletes that aims to gain maximum weight while maintaining or decreasing the percentage of body fat.

The opposite of anabolic is catabolic .
