Wolfgang Spann

Wolfgang Spann (born August 29, 1921 in Spalt ; † January 11, 2013 ) was a German forensic doctor .

Life

Spann grew up in Freising , studied after high school in 1937 at the Wilhelm Gymnasium München from 1940 in Munich Medicine and served, most recently with the rank of Field Under doctor , on the eastern front . Returning from the war wounded after a year, he graduated in 1947 and turned to forensic medicine.

In 1966, Spann was appointed to the chair of forensic medicine in Freiburg im Breisgau and in 1969 to Munich, where he was also the director of the institute for forensic medicine and forensic medicine. From 1967 to 1968, Spann was dean of the Freiburg Medical Faculty, and from 1971 until his retirement in 1989 he was Dean of the Medical Faculty of the University of Munich . In addition to medical law , his areas of interest also included traffic medicine .

During his professional life he was involved in the investigation of the causes of death of Stepan Bandera , Ingrid Schubert , Marianne Strauss , Franz Josef Strauss , Karl Heinz Beckurts and in the case of Vera Brühne . He also carried out a post-section on Rudolf Hess's body .

Honors

In 1970 Wolfgang Spann was elected a member of the Leopoldina . Spann was awarded the Cross of Merit 1st Class of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Bavarian Order of Merit and the Bavarian Constitutional Medal in silver. He was an honorary doctor of the medical faculties of the Universities of Freiburg and Istanbul.
