Location of the Eneborg district in Helsingborg.

Eneborg is a district of the Swedish city of Helsingborg , located southeast of the city center. Eneborg is located in the city district of the same name, with 3,816 inhabitants (as of 2005) .

Building history

The district got its name from the trading estate Eneborg that was here since the late 18th century. Development in the area began around the early 20th century, when population growth was the greatest in the city's history due to a booming economy . Regimental auditor N. Ljungman bought the land from Hans Aron Siöcrona to build apartments here. Together with other interested parties, he founded Eneborgs AB in 1901 .

The urban planning engineer C. Corin had submitted a proposal on behalf of Ljungmans for the division of the area to be built into building land for apartment buildings and open spaces, which was not implemented, however, as a building project running at the same time in the Wilson Park district had bad experiences with the saleability of the made into large open spaces. It was not until 1903 that a new plan was presented which envisaged the construction of apartment buildings according to a chessboard-like area scheme. In addition, a separate area should be reserved for residential development .

Between 1904 and 1907, 92 apartment buildings were finally built. The quality of the buildings exceeded those in the nearby Söder district , also because they were clustered around less narrow courtyards. In the 1930s, the district was built around more functionalist- style apartment buildings along Södra Stenbocksgatan , Övre Eneborgsvägen and later around Eneborgsplatsen .
