Högaborg is a district of the Swedish city of Helsingborg , which is south of the city center and east of the Söder district . The district of the same name has around 4,000 inhabitants (as of 2005) , around half of whom are immigrants.

history

Originally the area belonged to the trading estate Eneborg. At the beginning of the 20th century, their land was cut up by the newly founded company Eneborgs AB . Craftsmen and workers were encouraged to build their own homes here. The name of the new district is probably derived from a former building in this area that was adorned with the words "Högaborg", as can be seen in old photographs.

Within just one year - between 1903 and 1904 - the population in the district grew from 280 to 1547 people, and only a few years later it rose to 2,731. Initially, Högaborg was a quiet and idyllic villa area on the outskirts of Helsingborg, with adjoining allotment gardens . In 1914, at the Baltic Exhibition in Malmö, plans by the architects Sigurd Lewerentz and Torsten Stubelius for a larger housing estate in Högaborg were presented, but they were only implemented to a limited extent. The houses that were built are still unchanged today.

In the 1970s and 80s, a comprehensive urban redevelopment took place in Högaborg , in the course of which, on the one hand, older buildings were demolished and replaced by new buildings in the form of tenement houses, and on the other, part of the old buildings were renovated on a large scale.
