Norr is a district of the Swedish city of Helsingborg . Norr is located in the city district of the same name, which has around 3,600 inhabitants (as of 2005). The district stretches from the Place S: t Jörgens plats in the city center northwards between Oresund and the slope of the country to borrow designated geological fault .

The proximity to Öresund and the view of the sea add to the attractiveness of the district. Some of the central beaches and bathing areas are in Norr. The former railway area, which previously cut off the district from the sea, is now a meadow called Gröningen , which is used in summer for sunbathing and other leisure activities. Further north is the bathing place Örestrandsbadet (also called Fria bad ), followed by a promenade and the two beaches Pålsjöbaden and Vikingstrand .

history

Much of the area used to belong to the Pålsjö estate ( Pålsjö gård ) and was only sparsely populated with a few small day laborer farms ( torp ). Small fishing villages later developed near Pålsjö Castle and further north. The first urban development was built at the end of the 18th century near today's Sankt-Jörgen-Platz. This development consisted of simple half-timbered houses . Along the overland route to the north, approximately at the level of today's Pålsgatan road , a small number of new farms were built that belonged to the Pålsjö estate. At the beginning of the 19th century, new houses were built around Pålsgatan and Tågagatan and the fishing villages expanded further north.

From 1860 onwards, the speed of development on previous open spaces increased significantly when Countess Maria Sophia Barck had her land divided into individual plots. The area between Nyborgsvägen and Drottninggatan streets now consisted of a large number of long, narrow lots, the ends of which bordered the streets. After part of the Pålsjö estate was sold, the wealthy citizens of Helsingborg built land there. At the end of the 19th century the area became more urbanized, some of the mansions were demolished and replaced by apartment buildings. A station was built on the waterfront for the railway line running north along the Öresund. At the beginning of the 20th century, large Art Nouveau apartment complexes were built and in 1924 the park on Margaretaplatsen was created. The later development took place in the style of modernism and functionalism . After the Second World War , many apartments were built, some as high-rise buildings.

Pålsjö skog

Today, Norr is used by many Helsingborgs as a recreational area. The beaches, especially Örestrandsbadet , are among the most popular in town. The skog Pålsjö is a wooded area on the north end of Norr, here grow old beech and oak trees. The forest, which originally belonged to the Pålsjö estate, was bought by the city of Helsingborg in 1908 and opened to the public. The area is criss-crossed by hiking trails and a small café is open in summer .
