Enrique Crespo (born October 17, 1941 in Montevideo ) is a predominantly classical trombonist. He was the solo trombonist of the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra . He is an arranger and composer for brass music.

Life

Enrique Crespo studied architecture and music in Buenos Aires and became a solo trombonist in the local symphony orchestra . He also worked as an arranger, jazz soloist and band leader. A scholarship led Crespo to the University of the Arts in Berlin in 1967 . Here he studied trombone and composition. After completing his studies in 1969, he became principal trombonist with the Bamberg Symphony . He held this position until 1980 before he switched to the RSO Stuttgart of the SWR as a solo trombonist .

During this time he composed more and more and performed his own compositions himself. He founded his own sound and film studio, from which numerous record, film and television productions emerged. For one of his productions he founded the German Brass Quintet in 1974 together with his former classmates Konradin Groth , Martin Kretzer , Wolfgang Gaag and Dieter Cichewiecz . For the production of the CD BACH 300 on the occasion of Johann Sebastian Bach's 300th birthday in 1985, Crespo doubled the line-up to 10 brass players in order to be able to arrange Bach's music appropriately for brass. The ensemble has been called German Brass ever since . However, it has been playing without Crespo since 2011 because there were discussions about trademark rights within the ensemble.

Crespo tries to combine serious and popular music . He mixes classical , jazz and folklore styles in his compositions . Some of his compositions and arrangements have found widespread use in the repertoire of brass ensembles, such as the Suite Americana No. 1 from 1977 . Crespo uses Latin American folk songs ; the theme of the work Son de México , for example, is a popular song in Mexico . He also arranged for the Nuremberg Dance Orchestra .
