Appreciation

Characteristic of Hermann Grosselfinger's work is his deliberate limitation to two subject areas: the landscape and the still life of flowers. He dedicated himself to these genres with diligence and creative energy. This resulted in an astonishingly large number of pictures of a very consistent quality and a very personal style. Seen as a whole, two main style periods can be recognized: up to the Second World War  - he had to take part in both wars - the brightly colored, very finely written, spirited paintings, which hint at the influences of Expressionism . During this first time the pictures were created with impressive and convincing coloristic achievements. His brushwork is confident and surprising in his personal expression. The second phase of his work - the late work - is determined by a cooler colourfulness and a calmer form, an artistic routine becomes noticeable, the pictures have become clearer and more concentrated.

In 2005 Hermann Grosselfinger was a historical guest at the art exhibition Die Südliche .
