Devotional book
A devotional book is a book from the field of edification literature whose function is the private religious devotion of the lay person . Typical examples of this type of book since the late Middle Ages have been the book of hours , vernacular saints legends and the prayer book . Devotional books were often illuminated on behalf of their private owners .
