Anglaise (dance)

Anglaise (French; "Englische [r dance]") were the names of various fast dances of English origin from the 17th to the 19th centuries.

As Anglaise or Hopsanglaise the English were contra dances called. The name partially overlaps with the terms Française and Ecossaise . In addition, the horn pipe was also called this, in particular the solo horn pipe as a stage and character dance . All known Anglaisen are lively, simple dances of a folk character. The Anglaise also occurs as a suite set.
