The Société des études robespierristes (SER) is a French historical society founded in 1907 to study the French Revolution , Maximilien Robespierre and the Empire . The seat is in Paris.

It was founded by Albert Mathiez and stands for the politically left-wing interpretation of the revolution. In 1935 they received state recognition as a non-profit organization. The first meeting took place in 1908.

According to Mathiez, the presidents were: Georges Lefebvre , Albert Soboul , Ernest Labrousse , Jacques Godechot , Jean-René Suratteau (1916–1998), Jean-Paul Bertaud , Claude Mazauric , Michel Vovelle , Philippe Bourdin , Michel Biard (2013).

Since 1908 you have published the journal Annales historiques de la Révolution française (before 1923: Les Annales révolutionnaires ). The magazine is a scientific newspaper devoted entirely to the revolution and has an international reputation. At first it appeared four times a year, between 1920 and 1932 six times and since 1932 again four times. The journal also reflected the scientific debates of the time: first in line with the tensions between Mathiez and his teacher Alphonse Aulard , who competing published the journal La Revolution française of the Société de l'Histoire de la Revolution Française , of which he was chairman in 1888 until his death in 1928 (whose magazine appeared from 1881 to 1939). In the 1960s there were debates on the Atlantic Revolution ( RR Palmer , Jacques Godechot) and then the opposition of the revisionists around François Furet against the Marxist historians around Albert Soboul and later Michel Vovelle (Institut d´histoire de la révolution francaise).

They also publish the Études Révolutionnaires series , in which Robespierre's works also appeared.
