Why was born as the daughter of the Russian singer-songwriter Yuri Ignatevich Why (1949-2014) and the theater director Galina Michailovna Schapovalova. At the age of 5 she received piano lessons. Guitar lessons were added later. During her school days she intensified her musical and practical training. She performed in Ukraine with the school's own theater group. She sang traditional songs while accompanying herself on the guitar.

After graduating from school, she took up theater training, which she was unable to complete due to her Ukrainian accent. She turned back to singing and initially worked as a background singer for various productions.
