Follow-up communication

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Terminal Communication is a term used in sociology , which designates the adjoining an expression communicative response. The term is particularly related to the systems theory of the sociologist Niklas Luhmann .

In Luhmann's system theory as a comprehensive theory of the social and communication , ongoing communication is considered. In such communication, a selection of what has been said before is followed by another. In this context, there is always a psychological understanding of the meaning of what is expressed, which is shown in the subsequent communication. Understanding the meaning itself communicates information in communication that must be understood. Psychological understanding of meaning always has to do with the relationships between people, with the social. Psychological understanding becomes socially visible and verifiable, but only in the possibilities and forms of communication. The thought itself remains closed to communication because it is on the level of consciousness . Luhmann understands the concept of understanding psychologically and socially.

In sociology, conversations about media and media content are currently referred to as follow-up communication. However, there is disagreement about which communication phenomena fall under the term. The meaning and meaning of the term vary widely in the literature.

There is no equivalent to the term in English-language literature.

In the case of verbal and written communication, the follow-up communication is under observation; the participants in a communication must be present or respond in writing so that it is visible that the meaningful offer is also accepted. This is not possible with mass media such as printed newspapers.

Online it is possible to complete written communication units one after the other and at the same time and, if necessary, to correct them in a follow-up communication. What the recipient has understood can manifest itself in an immediate response. The other communication participant can then take corrective action. Online communication in particular has quick opportunities for correction, self-reflection and meta-communication.

For Luhmann, social understanding, which becomes visible in follow-up communication, also includes the complete rejection of the content of what has been communicated.
