Anti-vibration compound

Anti-Vibration Compound is a temperature-resistant mixture of a liquid with granular solids. It is used to reduce high-frequency vibrations, such as B. in calender rolls of paper machines . The occurrence of such vibrations reduces the performance of a calender or even the entire paper machine. The reasons for this are z. B. thickness profile fluctuations of the paper web in the machine direction, bearing damage, incorrect alignment of the drive shafts.

The anti-vibration compound is filled into the enlarged central bore of the roller . The vibrations manifest themselves in high-frequency periodic movements of the roller body with amplitudes from less than one to several µm. They are transferred from the roller structure to the incompressible fluid component. Due to the lower mobility of the solid components due to their inertia, the liquid executes forced oscillating movements around them. The smallest turbulence converts the kinetic energy into frictional heat and dampens the vibration.

A quieter run of the calender rolls and thus higher operating speeds are achieved. The regrinding intervals of the polymeric covers are longer due to the lower tendency to form barring. Other applications of Anti-Vibration Compound are the filling of welded machine beds or the calming of measuring arms in measuring machines.

A German patent has been granted for the use of anti-vibration compounds in calender rolls (DE 103 58 292 B3). The patent holders were SHW Casting Technologies GmbH and MFS Maschinenfabrik GmbH. The property right expired in 2014 due to non-payment of the annual fee.
