Antigenes (historian)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Antigen was one believed to have been in the late 4th century BC. Living Greek historian who apparently wrote a historical work about Alexander the great .

Antigenic belongs - in addition Cleitarchus , Onesicritus among others - to those of Plutarch enumerated older Alexander historians that the alleged encounter with Alexander the Amazons -Queen Thalestris presented as a historical event. He is also mentioned by the ancient grammarian Ailios Herodianos . The work of Antigen is completely lost; it must have shown a topographical and scientific character. It is not possible to determine whether he is identical to the commander of the same name from Alexander and later Diadochi .
