Anti-catalysis

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Among anti catalysis inhibition (will inhibition ) understood a chemical reaction.

The term is rarely used in chemistry, but is used in fire fighting . The radicals formed from the fuel during combustion are rendered ineffective through reaction with extinguishing agent radicals (homogeneous inhibition) or contact with powder particles (heterogeneous inhibition).

An anti-catalyst takes part in the reaction and is consumed in the process. The term anti-catalyst cannot therefore be understood analogously to the term catalyst. A real catalyst accelerates a reaction without being changed; a real anti-catalyst would be a substance that slows down a reaction without being changed. In the case of heterogeneous anti-catalysis, the anti-catalyst can be largely retained if the reaction is inhibited only on the surface of the extinguishing powder.
