Anton Flatz

Anton Flatz (born March 29, 1930 in Schwarzenberg ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and farmer. From 1959 to 1969 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament .

education and profession

Flatz attended the Schwarzenberg elementary school for eight years and graduated from the Mehrerau agricultural college between 1948 and 1949. He worked as a shepherd from 1946 to 1954 and then worked on his parents' farm from 1954 to 1962. In 1962 he took over the farm from his father, whom he ran until the farm was handed over again in 1997.

Politics and functions

Flatz joined the farmers' union and the Austrian People's Party in 1952 and took over the internal party function of local party chairman of the ÖVP Schwarzenberg in 1953. Flatz, who held this position until 1988, was also a member of the Schwarzenberg municipal council from 1960 to 1993, a member of the municipal council between 1965 and 1985 and Vice Mayor of Schwarzenberg from 1965 to 1975. At the state level he also worked from 1959 to 1969 as a member of the state party leadership of the ÖVP Vorarlberg as well as a member of the state party council, from 1960 he was also a member of the Vorarlberg state farmers' council. In addition, from 1954 he was a board member of the Bregenzerwald regional farmers' association. Flatz was also a founding member of the Schwarzenberg Senior Citizens' Union and its chairman from 1989 to 1999.

In the state parliament he represented the ÖVP as a member of the Bregenz constituency from October 29, 1959 to October 28, 1969, where he was a member of the Legal and Immunity Committee, a member of the Agriculture Committee and, most recently, a member of the Economics Committee.

In addition to his political functions and mandates, Flatz was also a board member of the Schwarzenberg dairy from 1969 to 1982, and co-founder and chairman of the Brittenberg dairy and the Schwarzenberg-Brittenberg goods road cooperative from 1966 to 1998. He was also active as chairman of the agricultural college graduate Mehrerau for the Bregenzerwald district and a member of the Schwarzenberg parish council.

Private

Anton Flatz is the son of the farmer Alois Flatz (1898–1966) and his wife Katharina Flatz (1902–1953), née Greber. In 1973 he married the native South Tyrolean Rosa Rastner (* 1935) and had a daughter in 1974.
