Display tube

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A display tube is a gas-filled or evacuated glass vessel for displaying numbers, statuses, letters or symbols.

  • the gas-filled so-called Nixie tubes and gas-filled counter tubes work on the principle of a glow lamp
  • the evacuated digitrons work like an electron tube . Digitrons, also known as vacuum fluorescence displays, are now also manufactured in flat designs - the functional principle is the same as with the older tubular designs.
  • evacuated counter tubes work by deflecting an electron beam. Like other counter tubes, they show the digits 0 to 9 as a luminous point next to a printed number.

In a broader sense also include cathode ray tubes (Braun tubes) and so-called magic eye to the display tubes.
