Numeric display tube

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Numeric display tubes are display tubes , which can only display a limited number of predetermined numbers or symbols due to their design.

Nixie tube
The Nixie tube is a gas discharge lamp and usually contains neon . It works on the principle of a glow lamp , with several cathodes arranged one behind the other in the form of one of the characters to be displayed. The anode is usually in the form of a network or grid around the entire cathode structure.
Vacuum fluorescent display
A fluorescent display (VFD) consists of thin, heatable cathode wires that are attached in front of the coated anodes. By glow emission , electrons escape from the cathode and move through the evacuated tube to the anode. When it hits the fluorescent anode coating, it is made to glow. In principle, this display is an electron tube . The anodes are usually arranged as segments in the form of 7-segment displays .
Filament tube
In an evacuated glass bulb, filaments in the form of a 7-segment display are attached. It is a multi- filament incandescent lamp and not an electron tube, since no electrons flow from a cathode to an anode through a gas or a vacuum . They were called Numitron .
A variant of the filament tube was the Minitron. Here, a case in was DIL format used, so that the modules in normal IC - sockets could be used.
