Aolpress

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Aolpress appeared as one of the first WYSIWYG editors for Internet pages in English. The now outdated computer program is easy to use and easy to learn. You can use it to create HTML pages without having to dig deeper into HTML. Aolpress is available free of charge but is not under a free license. It only runs under Windows and only up to version XP.

The program was originally called NAVIpress, later GNNpress, and was then bought by AOL . There are no restrictions for non-AOL users. It has not been further developed since 1997, but still offers a wide range of functions:

  • usable WYSIWYG including frames
  • Syntax check HTML 3.2 automatically (optional Netscape features)
  • structured programming automatically
  • Support in creating tables, bitmaps, input fields, etc.
  • high ease of use
  • easy to learn, tutorial available
  • built-in additional text editor with colored highlighting of the tags including search / replace and drag & drop
  • multi-level undo and redo
  • automatic conversion of special characters into HTML coding
  • Online web browser and viewer in one
  • No additional software is required to edit and check the created HTML sources
  • graphic representation of the linked pages in a "mini-web"

In the past, Aolpress versions were also available for the Unix and Mac OS operating systems.

The Windows versions still save a line break in Unix format (i.e. only LF, not CRLF). If you want to edit Aolpress files with another editor, it should be able to use Unix line breaks. This is not the case with the Notepad supplied with Windows , but it is with the WordPad that is also included .

Cons of Aolpress

  • Certain characters such as B. The at sign (@) or square brackets cannot be entered directly.
  • Aolpress is considered to be extremely happy to crash. However, there is a well-functioning restore function that can restore a previous processing status in most cases, so that data is rarely lost.
