Coin of Aphilas

Aphilas was a king of the Aksumite Empire in Africa. He ruled at the beginning of the fourth century and is known almost exclusively for his coins. These imprints are characterized by a series of experiments. They show different weights that were later no longer used and he minted the smallest gold coin ever issued in sub-Saharan Africa, which represented one sixteenth of the Roman aureus . These coins are labeled AΦΙ / ΛAC / BACI / ΛEY (Aphilas, the king), other coins explicitly designate Aphilas as king of the Axumites and as the man (?) Of Dimele.
