The meadow cicada ( Aphrodes makarovi ) is a dwarf cicada from the subfamily of the earth cicadas (Aphrodinae).
features
The cicadas are 5.5–7.5 mm long. The cicadas have a relatively pointed head shape. A light transverse band often runs over the head and over the pronotum . The cicadas have pale wing veins . The coloring is very variable. In particular, the females are very difficult to distinguish from similar species. It used to be A. makarovi as a color variant of Aphrodes bicinctus .
Occurrence
The species is widespread in Europe. The species is found in the British Isles and Scandinavia, while it is absent on the Iberian Peninsula.
Way of life
The meadow cicada can be found on dandelions , thistles , nettles and other plants. The cicadas suckle on the leaves and stems of these plants. The adults of a generation fly from June to October.
