Apo-

In chemical nomenclature, the prefix Apo is used - with the meaning "from ... her", "since", "away-", "ent-" (see ancient Greek prepositions ). In the meaning of the missing are z. B. apoterpenes those terpenes in which a methyl group is missing. In the case of the carotenoids , apo- indicates either the absence of a methyl group or the oxidation of a complete isoprene group. Apomorphine, on the other hand, is a rearrangement product of morphine.

A coenzyme-dependent enzyme is called apoenzyme without this cofactor .
