Appropriation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Appropriation ( Latin appropriatio , from appropriare , "to acquire, to appropriate, to make one's own") describes the appropriation of things, i.e. the acquisition of property, as well as appropriation in the philosophical-humanistic sense .

Specifically referred to as appropriation

  • in sociology a social process of appropriation as a source of property, see appropriation (sociology)
  • in feudal law the acquisition of a fief by the original tenant (lat. appropriatio feudi )
  • in the theology of Thomas Aquinas the assignment of one of the essential attributes of the Trinity (power, wisdom, goodness) to one of its three persons
  • in the fine arts, consciously copying or imitating another artist, see Appropriation Art

Deviating from this, the "appropriation of abandoned property" is called occupation .
