Aptonetus

Aptonetus lived in the 1st century and was an experienced gladiator until his death . He is mentioned in a graffito on the Casa del Fauno house in Pompeii with his previous battle record. Aptonetus was a freedman who died after surviving 16 meetings in the amphitheater of Pompeii . In contrast to him, his opponent Spiculus was a newcomer ( tiro ) who had completed his training in the Neronian gladiator school shortly before. Aptonetus fought in the gladiator class of a Thraex and his opponent in that of the Murmillo .
