An agal ( Arabic عقال, DMG ʿaqāl ) is a cord that is used to hold the keffiyeh (an Arabic headgear) on the head. Usually the agal is black.

An agal usually consists of a wool core around which black threads are wrapped very tightly in order to achieve the necessary rigidity.
