Working group for medical librarianship

The Working Group for Medical Libraries (AGMB eV) is the largest specialist librarianship association in Germany and has around 450 members, mostly from Germany.

The beginnings of AGMB go back to 1966. At a meeting of medical experts in Frankfurt, the proposal was discussed to set up a permanent working group. The 3rd International Congress for Medical Libraries in Amsterdam in 1969 then gave the final impetus for the establishment of the AGMB on November 17, 1970 in Cologne. Since then, the AGMB has held numerous well-organized (annual) conferences with great success, thereby giving the medical library system a valuable communication platform. In the meantime, four working groups are intensifying the exchange of information and experience even further.

On the initiative of long-time chairman Ulrich Korwitz ( German Central Library for Medicine ) and with the approval of the general assembly, the AGMB has been a registered association with its seat in Cologne since June 1, 2000 .
