Unemployment insurance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The unemployment insurance is in contrast to the unemployment insurance private insurance that the risk of unemployment cover.

It is often offered in connection with a residual debt insurance .

Insurance companies try to keep their risks limited. For this purpose:

  • The insurance company only makes the agreed payments for a short period of time. According to Stiftung Warentest, the maximum performance period is 2 years.
  • There is a waiting period between the conclusion of the insurance and the start of the insurance cover. Anyone who becomes unemployed within this waiting period will not receive any benefits.
  • Self-inflicted unemployment (in the event of personal dismissal or behavior-related dismissal) is usually not insured.
  • Certain risk groups (e.g. unskilled workers) do not receive insurance cover from some providers.

Because of these restrictions, unemployment insurance is relatively low in Germany.

The BGH defined the term “unemployed” in a customer-friendly way in its judgment of May 11, 2005 (Ref .: IV ZR 25/04).
