The Archaeological Museum Limassol (The Archaeological Museum in Limassol) is a municipal museum in the town of Limassol on Cyprus . It is located in a new building, directly north of the zoo and documents the early cultural history of the Limassol district from the Neolithic to the end of the Eastern Roman Empire .

history

The museum was established in Limassol Castle ( Lage ) in 1948 , but was closed indefinitely during the conflicts of 1963.

The numerous archaeological finds that came to light during the expansion of the urban area gave rise to the need to build an extension. In 1972 work began on building a new museum, which is conveniently located about two kilometers northeast of the castle. The building was inaugurated in 1975. Since then, the castle, which was partially rebuilt and is presented today as it was under Ottoman rule, has housed the Medieval Museum, which chronologically connects to the Archaeological Museum.
