Arlan Hamilton

Arlan Hamilton (born October 30, 1980 in California ) is an American author, founder and managing partner of Backstage Capital.

Life

Prior to her role as a venture capitalist, Hamilton was the tour manager of Atlantic Records recording artist Janine and founded and published the indie magazine Interlude.

In 2015, Hamilton, inspired by Mike Rothenberg from Rothenberg Ventures, founded Backstage Capital, a fund that invests in "underrated founders" similar to Comcast Ventures' Catalyst Fund. According to the fund, underrated founders are defined as women, people of color and members of the LGBTQ community. At that point, Hamilton was homeless.

In May 2018, Hamilton announced that her company would also set up a $ 36 million fund specifically for black female founders. In March 2019, after difficulties in raising the proposed $ 36 million fund, Hamilton stepped down as CEO of Backstage Studio, laying off a significant percentage of Backstage employees.

In June 2019, Hamilton received Business Insider recognition as one of the 23 most powerful LGBTQ + people in tech.
