Violation Wound is an American hardcore punk band from California that was founded in 2013.

history

The band was formed in June 2013 and consisted of singer and guitarist Chris Reifert , bassist Joe Orterry and drummer Matt O'Connell. A year later the self-titled debut album was released on VIC Records , which was followed by the album Broken Idol / Elimination Time in 2015 by Horror Pain Gore Death Productions and the album Open Up and Burn in 2016 . That same year the group played at the California Deathfest . In 2018 she took part in the Maryland Deathfest . In April of that year, Peaceville Records released the album With Man in Charge . This includes Athenar von Midnight and Dave Hill , with whom Reifert collaborated in the same year in the band Painted Doll , as guest musicians. The album was recorded at Earhammer Studios in Oakland , California, under the direction of Greg Wilkinson . In July 2019, the album Dying to Live, Living to Die was recorded in Hyde St. Studios in Los Angeles under the direction of Sam Zuerner and released in the same year on Peaceville Records.

style

Thomas Strater from Metal Hammer wrote in his review of With Man in Charge that this was punk that was "rattling away in a nice old fashioned way". Reifert's singing is "mangy, although of course a bit more understandable than his trademark barking at Autopsy". The album is suitable for fans of old-fashioned punk and hardcore punk. Jan Jaedike from Rock Hard also reviewed the album and stated that influences from hardcore punk can be heard on it, whereby one oriented itself more towards Poison Idea than 7 Seconds . In addition, elements from the rock 'n' roll of the 1980s are being incorporated. The band members are experienced musicians, but the album is "not a sloppy revolt of old men", but one "shoots directly in the face with breathtaking freshness". He described Reifert's singing as an "anti-social roar", whereby he was a "sloppy guitarist with a tendency to broken solos ". In a later issue, Sebastian Schilling reviewed Dying to Live, Living to Die and described the music as a mixture of punk and thrash metal . Occasionally there are also tonal similarities to rock 'n' roll, so that memories of Motörhead are evoked. The songs are very short, with the longest only being three minutes long, but they do not seem "unkind or unfinished". On the album you form "crisp riffs and creaky bass lines into catchy songs", whereby the lyrics have a socially critical character and are "nice and pissed off, but at the same time reflected". Overall, the album is suitable for fans of groups like Toxic Holocaust . Mandy Malon assigned the group to hardcore punk and grindcore one edition later . The texts come from Reifert and are of a political nature.
