Art of Fighting ( Japanese: 龍虎 の 拳 , Ryūko no Ken ), or AOF for short, is a fighting game series from SNK . The first part appeared in 1992 for the Neo Geo . The series is the prequel to the Fatal Fury series.

history

The central story of the first Art of Fighting revolves around the rescue of Yuri Sakazaki, the sister of one of the protagonists, Ryo Sakazaki. The story takes place before the events of the Fatal Fury series, as Terry Bogard's father, Jeff Bogard, is still alive.

In the successors of the game, however, the story focuses more on the difficulties and entanglements of the Sakazaki family and their fighting style, karate , which in the game is called Kyokugen-ryū (Japanese: "extreme style"). Like other elements from AOF, the Sakazaki family also appear in the games of The King of Fighters .

Art of Fighting itself takes place in 1978, part 2 and 3 in 1979, if you use the dates of birth of the fighters (for example, Ryo is given as the year 1957). When SNK brought the characters from their various series together to form The King of Fighters (which is another story universe), the birth dates of the Art of Fighting fighters were adjusted so that the age differences between the fighters of the other series were eliminated . This was done in order not to have to draw new character models adapted to the “real” age.

Gameplay

Art of Fighting was the first game with a so-called super bar and also introduced the Spirit gauge and the Desperation move . Under Desperation move is meant a kind of desperation blow, which consists of many combined kicks and punches. The Spirit gauge is charged manually and is used with every special move . But the actions are more powerful, which causes more damage to the opponent.
