Artillery block

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An artillery block is that part of an artillery plant , or in French called gros ouvrage , that is equipped with artillery and is responsible for long-range combat. These are either artillery casemates in which the artillery shoots out of wall slits, or artillery bunkers, which can be sunk completely into the ground by means of retractable armored turrets.

While artillery casemates had two to three sockets with one gun each, armored turrets were basically equipped with twin guns that could be raised and fired independently of one another, but could only fire in one direction.
