Asin Thottumkal ( Malayalam അസിൻ തോട്ടുങ്കൽ ; born October 26, 1985 in Kochi ), known as Asin (Tamil: அசின்), is an Indian film actress, model and stage performer.

Life

Asin was born in Kochi, Kerala . Her father, Joseph Thottumkal originally from Thodupuzha , managed several companies before managing his daughter's career. Her mother, Seline Thottumkal, is a surgeon and lived with her daughter in Mumbai .

She made her acting debut in Sathyan Anthikkad's Malayalam film Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka (2001). Asin had her first commercial success in 2003 with Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi , and won a Filmfare Award South for best actress for the film.

After a series of films, she received her second Filmfare Award South for Best Actress for her performance in her second Tamil film Ghajini (2005). She then played the leading female role in the action comedy Varalaru (2006). In 2008, Asin made her Hindi film debut with Ghajini , the remake of Tamil film, for which she subsequently won the Filmfare Award / Best Debut .
