The Altes Landgut underground station is a station on the U1 line in Vienna's 10th district, Favoriten . The opening took place on September 2, 2017. It is part of the extension of the U1 from Reumannplatz to Oberlaa .

Station system

The Altes Landgut station was built approx. 1.6 km south of Reumannplatz in a low position under the place called Altes Landgut , known in reports for car traffic as the Favoriten district , and under Favoritenstrasse. The name comes from an inn on the northern slope of the Laaer Berg that was demolished around 1900 . Today's place is on the top of the mountain, so in terms of altitude it is the highest station on the U1 or the entire Vienna subway network. Since the underground line passes under the Laaerberg tunnel of the south-east bypass in the area of the station , the tracks are also around 30 meters below the surface, also a record in the entire network. The two tracks, including the platforms, are in separate tubes that are connected to each other at the ends. The southern exit leads to the distribution circle, the northern exit to Favoritenstraße, which runs into town.

The station serves the FH Campus Wien , the Generali Arena football stadium and the Laaerbergbad summer pool , all three in the immediate vicinity. You can also change here (as before from tram line 67) to bus line 15A, which crosses the route of the U1 and connects Meidling (U6) tangentially with Simmering (U3). Immediately to the east of the southern reception building there is a large parking lot of a private provider on an ASFINAG property in the favorites distribution area , which is used in particular by day commuters from the south of Vienna for “Park & Ride” .

A press release from the planning department of the Vienna city administration was published in spring 2014 on the planned construction of a new district around the subway station or the distribution circle. At the end of 2015, project partner Asfinag announced that the construction of the new district would be postponed for a few years for economic reasons.

In 2020, a Brake Energy system was the second of its kind to go into operation in Vienna. The braking energy of the arriving trains is not only fed back into the rail network, but is also used via an inverter to supply voltage to the station equipment, such as lighting, escalators and the like.

Design

On the distribution floor of the station, the walls of the escalator system were provided with the large-format mural of facial surveillance snails by the Swiss computer artist Yves Netzhammer . The total of 63 stylized portraits are a playful homage to the diversity of people and the ubiquitous surveillance by face recognition. They are humorous depictions with lots of lovely details. The drawings were applied to the metal plates using foil template technology and a special interference varnish (a so-called flip-flop effect varnish). The flip-flop lacquer means that the colors are perceived differently from different angles; the drawings therefore seem to change as they pass on the escalator.

There is also a small figure of St. Barbara, the patron saint of miners.
