Aspis (myth)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Aspis is a serpent-shaped creature from Greek mythology that is said to have originated from the blood of Medusa . The poet Lukan mentions them in his epic De bello civili .

It symbolizes obstinacy, stubbornness and evil. It is said that the Aspis guard a tree whose resin acts like aromatic balm and that you have to play the Aspis to sleep with a special instrument in order to get to it. Furthermore, she is responsible for protecting the carbuncle , also known as the dragon stone or draconis , which the Aspis only reveals on hearing a certain password. However, the aspis blocks their hearing by plugging one ear with its tail end and the other with earth, rolling on the ground.
