The Associació Professional de Traductors i Intèrprets de Catalunya (APTIC) (German: Professional Association of Translators and Interpreters of Catalonia ) is an independent, non-profit  association that was founded on January 1st, 2009. Membership is open to anyone who works in the industry and who has an academic background or professional experience. The association is a member of the international umbrella organization FIT (Fédération internationale des traducteurs) and the Spanish umbrella organization Red Vértice. For more than 20 years, APTIC has represented the interests of the profession and offers further training and funding opportunities. The number of members amounts to over 650 professional translators and interpreters.

APTIC was born from the merger of the two associations for interpreters and translators that existed at the time : ATIC (Associació de Traductors i Intèrprets de Catalunya, Catalan Association of Translators and Interpreters) and TRIAC (Traductors i Intèrprets Associats pro-Col·legi, United Translators and Interpreters per professional chamber). The ATIC, in turn, was founded in 1994 by a group of students studying translation studies who wanted to counteract the lack of legislation and the lack of organization within the industry. TRIAC was established a year later with the main aim of creating a professional association for translators and interpreters as the body responsible for the legal regulation of professional practice.

For a period of 10 years both associations functioned independently of each other. In 2006 the law on the exercise of professions with academic training and regulation of professional chambers was passed, which excluded the possibility of establishing a professional chamber for translators and interpreters. From this point in time, the goals of the ATIC and the TRIAC were aligned, so that the merger to form today's APTIC began.
