Allianz France, SA (until September 2009 Assurances générales de France , AGF for short ) is the French parent company of the Allianz Group . Allianz is one of the leading insurance companies in France .

history

In 1818, Martin d'André founded the Société Anonyme des Assurances Générales by converting a fire insurance company, a marine insurance company and a life insurance company. In 1849 a reinsurance contract was signed with Phénix in London , as a result of which Générale became one of the most important insurance companies in Europe.

In 1945 the company, like many other companies in France, was nationalized. In 1968 the nationalized insurance companies were restructured: Générale merged with Phénix to form AGF . In 1996, 51% of AGF's share capital was privatized through the stock exchange .

In October 1997, the Italian insurer Generali made a hostile takeover offer . As part of this takeover attempt, Allianz published a counter offer with the support of AGF management. In November 1997, Generali and Allianz reached an agreement: Generali gave up their AGF takeover plans and in return took over the majority of the Aachen-Münchener-Versicherungsgruppe (AMB), in which AGF and Allianz held major stakes. In 1998 Allianz took over the majority of the capital with 58% after the successful completion of the offer.

In the spring of 2007, Allianz announced a public offer to buy the remaining shares. After completion of the purchase offer, Allianz owned over 95% of the share capital; 4.6% of the capital was in free float . As a result, a squeeze-out was initiated in April 2007 so that the minority shareholders could sell their shares in return for a settlement. On July 11, 2007, this process was completed with the termination of the listing on the Paris Stock Exchange. AGF has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Allianz Holding France SAS (a subsidiary of Allianz SE ) since then and was renamed Allianz in mid-September 2009.

Banque AGF has been operating as Allianz Banque since January 2009.

Stock market data

From February 1976 to July 2007 AGF was listed on the Paris Stock Exchange , now part of the Euronext stock exchange, and was part of the French CAC40 stock exchange index .
