Astrological Lodge of London

The The Astrological Lodge of London (ALL) is an astrological organization based in London . It was founded in 1915 by Alan Leo as a lodge of the Theosophical Society Adyar (Adyar-TG) and has been independent since 1983 (?).

history

Alan Leo was a member of the Adyar-TG and together with his wife Bessie Leo founded their own lodge within the Adyar-TG on July 13, 1915 in order to combine work on theosophy and astrology. Bessie Leo became President of the Astrological Lodge of the Theosophical Society . [1], [2]

When Charles Ernest Owen Carter became the new president on January 23, 1922 , he put astrological topics in the foreground and pushed back the theosophical worldview. Carter founded Astrology magazine in 1926 as the official publication organ of ALL. Later (probably 1971) the name was changed to Astrology Quarterly , the paper is still published today. [3]

The Faculty of Astrological Studies was founded on June 7, 1948 as a subsidiary of ALL and became independent in 1954. Likewise, The Astrological Association of Great Britain on June 21, 1958. In both cases, the desire for astrological studies, without including the theosophical worldview, was decisive.

Carter was followed by Ronald Davison as President from 1952 to 1982 , and then from 1982 to 1984 by Geoffrey Cornelius . Derek Appleby was also President for a short time, but the other leaders are not clear. [1]

Presumably in 1983 the ALL became independent from the Adyar-TG and has existed as an autonomous organization ever since. However, there are still friendly relationships with Adyar-TG.
